Bakhvi Hydropower Plant has been honored with the UN Global Compact Corporate Sustainability Award for its initiative, “Advisory Council on Environmental and Social Issues at Bakhvi HPP.” The award was presented under Goal 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions.
Expert Commentary: Pierre Biedermann – International Expert on Environmental and Social Affairs “It must be emphasized that the model of the Advisory Council represents an exemplary practice. While similar models are not uncommon in other countries, the local context here plays a particularly significant role. In Georgia, there is a notably engaged civil society. People are eager to voice their opinions, raise critical questions, participate in discussions, and speak openly and boldly about issues that matter to them. In this regard, the approach adopted by Bakhvi HPP is highly effective. It enables broad stakeholder engagement and fosters the inclusive dissemination of information through the Advisory Council, ensuring that a wide range of interested parties are involved in the process and informed about the development of the Bakhvi HPP project.”
