Partnership

In the autumn of 2021, a partnership with USAID began. Specifically, Bakhvi HPP signed memoranda of cooperation with USAID's Economic Security and Energy Future programs. The partners jointly implemented projects such as the lighting of Bakhmaro with an energy-efficient LED lighting system and the strengthening of the “Tea Route” association.

In 2022, in Bakhmaro, in partnership with USAID's Energy Future program, an unprecedented project was implemented, as a result of which the central road of Bakhmaro was illuminated using an energy-efficient LED lighting system. The project was carried out with consideration for Bakhmaro's tourism potential and environmental aspects. Along the 4.5-kilometer stretch of the central road, poles were replaced, overhead wiring was moved underground (ensuring greater protection and durability), and energy-efficient LED lamps were installed. Local residents were employed on the construction works alongside the company's staff. The completed project was handed over to Chokhatauri Municipality for management.

TourismAndeconomy

Since 2021, Bakhvi HPP, together with USAID's Economic Security program, has actively supported small entrepreneurs in Guria. The project assisted the “Tea Route” association and strengthened its institutional side and organizational sustainability, which in turn helped promote Gurian tea, created unified branding, and established the “Tea Route” itinerary. Up to 20 homesteads along the route were retrained in hospitality.
In 2022–2024, tea festivals, exhibition-sales, and outreach events were held on a regular basis, where local entrepreneurs learned about new developments, acquired new skills, promoted their products, and made sales.
Notably, as a result of these and other events, the recognition of the “Tea Route” grows every year, which will certainly translate in the future into increased sales figures and more visitors. For example, in 2025 the number of visitors to the “Tea Route” tourist locations exceeded 6,500, whereas in 2022 this figure was 2,000. Along with the growth in visitors, the income of host establishments increased. Gurian tea production, meanwhile, has grown by 25% in 2025 compared to 2022.

Since 2023, Bakhvi HPP has actively collaborated with the organization “Women for the Future, Chkhakaura Community” to empower women entrepreneurs; the organization was founded with the aim of the social and economic empowerment of women living in Chkhakaura. The company donated computer equipment to them as a gift.
