A special therapy course for parents of minors with special needs residing in Chokhatauri Municipality is ongoing. The project is initiated and organized by the non-governmental organization “Women for Women,” with the initiative supported by Bakhvi HPP, which funds the project, and in partnership with the local self-government, which ensures the transportation of the participants.
The goal of the project is to provide psychological support to the parents of individuals with special needs through specialized therapeutic group work. The training is led by Nino Kereselidze, the head of the “Psychotherapeutic Space,” who is a psychologist and psychotherapist.
The “Women for Women” organization conducts group meetings for women who have children with special needs. So far, five meetings have taken place. The lectures cover topics such as overcoming stress, managing emotions, and coping with difficulties. In today’s reality, it is very important for parents who care for children with special needs to feel that they are not isolated, that their emotional state is being cared for and that there is interest in their well-being.
Meanwhile, our psychologists are working with the children. Specifically, we engage in various games and drawing activities to ensure that mothers are maximally involved in the process,” said psychotherapist Nino Kereselidze.
“This project helps us address our daily problems. Psychological consultations are very important. During the trainings, parents share their experiences, impressions, and problems with each other,” explained project participant, Tsisia Berdzenishvili.
"Bakhvi HPP finances this project as part of the company’s social program. Additionally, our social program generally includes a component for assisting individuals with disabilities. We believe that strengthening individuals with disabilities and their parents, in the context of contemporary global challenges, is a significant task. Unfortunately, individuals with special needs are still not able to fully realize their rights at this stage. This problem is particularly acute in the regions. Therefore, we think that the benefits brought by hydropower projects to the region should be evenly distributed among all equally entitled members of society. Achieving this goal is one of our tasks, and it is with this motivation that we carry out our social projects. Here, I would also like to thank the initiator of the psychotherapeutic course, first of all, for developing such a beneficial program and also for giving us the opportunity to participate in the project,” said David Koberidze, Environmental, Social, and Governance Manager at Bakhvi HPP.
The psychotherapeutic course for parents of individuals with disabilities is a one-year project. Throughout 2023, a total of 10 meetings are planned.
