To celebrate Earth Day on April 22, Bakhvi Hydro Power Plant has announced a competition titled "Earth Day Every Day" for students of the public schools in Mtispiri and Chokhatauri municipalities. This marks the second year that Bakhvi HPP is observing this day in Guria. The competition is organized by Lela Mdinaradze, a member of the Bakhvi HPP Advisory Board and Head of the Environmental Protection and Rural Development Department of Chokhatauri Municipality.
The competition is divided into three age categories: • For primary school students (Grades I-IV), the task is to create a drawing. • For middle school students (Grades V-VIII), the task is to make a poster. • For high school students (Grades IX-XII), the task is to write an essay.
The goal of the competition is twofold: to raise awareness about environmental protection issues among young people and to encourage students from these villages. Each school will participate independently, and the jury will select three winners from each age group, resulting in a total of 18 winners. All participants will receive a certificate of participation. Lela Mdinaradze stated: “On April 22, the whole world celebrates Earth Day. One of the main goals of this day is to raise awareness among future generations about the protection of natural resources. The competition organized by Bakhvi HPP aims to fulfill this objective. It is noteworthy that a large part of the company’s social projects also has an educational aspect. We understand that raising educational and awareness levels among young people is the best way to overcome existing challenges. Every person has the right to live in a healthy environment, and protecting Earth’s natural resources is a duty for each of us.”
David Koberidze, Environmental, Social, and Governance Manager at Bakhvi HPP, added: “We are pleased to see that a large number of students from Mtispiri and Chokhatauri public schools have already shown interest in the competition. We have purchased all the necessary stationery items for completing the competition tasks and have provided them to the schools. The competition rules are also posted in the schools. Directors and teachers are helping to disseminate information and create a supportive environment for students to participate. We extend our gratitude to them for their assistance. The competition will have an independent jury to determine the winners. I wish the students the best of luck.”
The deadline for submitting works to the school directors is April 14, 2023. The winners will be announced at the end of April 2023.
The prize categories for first, second, and third place winners are varied.
