Bakhvi HPP Implements Energy-Efficient LED Lighting System in Bakhmaro
In the summer of 2022, through the initiative of Bakhvi HPP in collaboration with USAID's Energy Future Project, an energy-efficient LED lighting system was installed along the central road in Bakhmaro. The project involved replacing the fully depreciated old system over a 4.5-kilometer stretch, encompassing 128 poles and transmission lines. The formerly aerial transmission line was relocated underground for enhanced protection, and an energy-efficient lighting system was installed. The central boulevard of Bakhmaro, illuminated both in winter and summer, stands as a testament to the success of this project. The project employed eight local residents and was completed over two months.
“The first infrastructure project under Bakhvi HPP in the region was the installation of an energy-efficient LED lighting system in Bakhmaro. I am pleased that the system operates without interruptions and is appreciated by both tourists and locals. Today, those in Bakhmaro can hardly imagine the road without lighting. We are also delighted that photographers share stunning images of Bakhmaro's night lights on social media. The illuminated streetlights have become a hallmark of Bakhmaro. Our goal in implementing social projects is to create sustainable development initiatives that improve living conditions in the region,” said David Koberidze, Bakhvi HPP's Environmental, Social, and Governance Manager.
In the 2023 season, starting from August, Bakhmaro welcomed 20,000 visitors during both winter and summer seasons. Many of these visitors captured images of Bakhmaro's now illuminated by the LED lighting system.
