The Advisory Board on Environmental and Social Issues of Bakhvi HPP convened for its annual review meeting in Kutaisi. During the offsite session, Bakhvi HPP Director Giorgi Abramishvili evaluated the progress of the project and discussed the challenges that were overcome and turned into achievements over the five-year development period.
“Every stage of Bakhvi HPP’s development has been important to us. The first achievement I am proud of today is fulfilling the promises we made in 2021 and 2022. Gaining and justifying people’s trust is our greatest accomplishment. Looking back, I believe that beyond being a modern hydropower plant, Bakhvi HPP is an interesting story about human relationships,” said Giorgi Abramishvili, Director of Bakhvi HPP.
Members of the Bakhvi HPP Advisory Board listened to a presentation by Archil Dzneladze, Technical Director of Bakhvi HPP, which outlined the final phase of construction. They were also briefed on the progress of the environmental and social projects implemented by Bakhvi HPP. Notably, 44 studies were conducted between 2024 and 2025, and 15 social projects were carried out between 2021 and 2025. These included 4 infrastructure projects, 7 educational projects, 2 projects supporting small businesses, and 2 initiatives assisting persons with disabilities and their parents.
“Each project was very important to us because it directly benefited the local population. The positive impact of our social program reached approximately 1,000 people. Ensuring the fair and equitable distribution of these benefits was crucial, and I believe we succeeded. When implementing social projects, the benefits should be received by the community as a whole, not just a small group. Following this principle, we selected educational and infrastructure projects, provided business support, and included persons with disabilities and their families in the communities where our projects were implemented,” said David Koberidze, Environmental and Social Affairs Manager at Bakhvi HPP.
Members of the Bakhvi HPP Advisory Board, in turn, positively assessed the work of the Bakhvi HPP team, noting that the project was completed successfully and, most importantly, the local population is satisfied.
At the final meeting of 2025, the Bakhvi HPP team and Advisory Board members agreed that the board will continue its work in 2026.
