Interview with Bakvi HPP's Head of Health and Safety division, Mikheil Natroshvili Mikheil, with winter approaching, could you share the measures your company's Helath and Safety division is taking to ensure safe and efficient operations during the cold months?
• Thank you for your interest. There are several preparatory steps that our company undertakes as we gear up for the winter season. First and foremost, we equip our workforce with appropriate winter gear, including thermal clothing, socks, hats, and gloves. At work sites where personnel concentration is highest, we set up heated dining containers with hot water availability, allowing staff to warm up and enjoy hot tea or coffee during breaks. Additionally, our on-site medical staff are supplied with specialized equipment to address potential hypothermia incidents, as well as stocked with flu prevention and fever-reducing medications. Regular temperature checks will be conducted, and employees showing flu symptoms will be given time off to recover.
Could you elaborate on your strategy for managing natural weather conditions during winter? • We have a proactive approach for winter road management. Heavy snow-clearing equipment, such as bulldozers and excavators, will be stationed at several pre-designated locations along access routes. These machines will be on standby to clear the roads at regular intervals. Furthermore, technical salt storage facilities will be set up at a minimum of two locations, enabling a dedicated team to clear snow and apply salt each morning during snowy or icy conditions. This ensures smooth access for all vehicles heading to work sites. The project will also bring in experts to identify avalanche-prone areas and provide actionable safety recommendations. These zones will be marked with special signs to ensure all employees are informed and avoid stopping in hazardous areas. As the winter season sets in, we will assemble a specialized emergency response team tasked with implementing predefined risk mitigation actions. Vehicles and other mobile equipment will be fitted with appropriate winter tires. Pedestrian areas on work sites will be subject to continuous snow and ice removal, with designated personnel assigned to this task. Moreover, all project employees will receive informational training sessions. Ensuring the safety of both our workforce and the local communities near our project sites remains Bakvi HPP’s top priority. Thus, every measure we implement is planned and executed to the highest professional standards in this regard.
