Bakhvi 2 HPP consists of two small to medium-sized plants (Bakhvi 2a and Bakhvi 2b) that operate on river flow. The headwork area for Bakhvi 2a involves a very small impoundment of 0.09 hectares, while Bakhvi 2b will have an impoundment of 0.04 hectares.
The electricity generated by Bakhvi 1 and 2 HPPs is supplied to the central grid in accordance with Georgian legislation. However, in the event of an unexpected interruption in the electricity supply from the central system, the region's hydropower plants will ensure the continuous physical delivery of electricity. This automatic switching between sources will significantly enhance the quality of electricity supply in the region. It will address issues of voltage and frequency drops caused by uneven regional loads and disproportionate supply.
Consistent and high-quality electricity supply will also create additional opportunities for connecting new consumption facilities or developing production in the region. Generally, international experience shows that decentralized and regional development of generation facilities is crucial for a country's successful growth. It increases access to quality electricity supply, thereby strengthening local municipalities. The Bakhvi 2 HPP project area is located in Ozurgeti Municipality and includes the Mtispiri community.
