On March 21, 2024, Bakhvi HPP's management and the company's Environmental and Social Advisory Council held their first off-site meeting of the year. The council members visited the Bakhvi HPP construction camp located in the village of Mtispiri in Ozurgeti Municipality.
David Koberidze, Manager of Environmental, Social and Governance at Bakhvi HPP, provided the council members with an overview of the construction camp's specifics. The camp, designed in full compliance with modern international standards and Georgian legislation, is situated near the construction site, ensuring safe and efficient transportation of personnel to their work locations. The camp is strategically distanced from residential areas to minimize noise disturbance to the local population. Notably, the camp was established on land with poor soil and vegetation cover, away from the river, reducing soil impact and pollution risks.
"The Bakhvi HPP construction camp is designed to accommodate up to 140 people. Currently, there are 58 permanent residents on site. This number will increase in line with the construction phases. After the completion of the construction work, the buildings will be dismantled, and the land will be cleaned and recultivated, restoring the site to its original condition," stated David Koberidze.
At the council meeting, Mikheil Natroshvili, the company's Health and Safety Manager, discussed the stringent safety protocols adhered to by the company, both within the construction perimeter and in nearby villages. Last month, a training session on safety norms was conducted at Mtispiri Public School to inform students about safety practices.
Council members were also briefed on the implementation of the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA). The action plan for environmental measures, outlined by international experts, is a priority at this stage of the project. International experts will periodically monitor the construction site and assess the performance of the Bakhvi HPP team in this regard.
Additionally, the Bakhvi HPP team has completed a social project in the village of Vaniskedi, Ozurgeti Municipality, which will soon provide 47 households with access to drinking water. The project included the creation of a water system, network installation, metering, and the construction of a pumping station. The completed project has been handed over to the municipality for management.
During the council's first session of the year, the 2024 engagement program was agreed upon, ensuring greater and more direct involvement of each council member in the social projects implemented by the company.
