Within the framework of the Bakhvi HPP project, waste management during the construction and operation phases is one of the most crucial commitments according to the EIA document. Due to the anticipated generation of various types of waste, the company has developed a waste management plan in full compliance with Georgian legislation and international standards. This document outlines the procedures for the collection, transportation, and, if necessary, processing and disposal of waste generated during the construction and operation of the HPP, adhering strictly to environmental, sanitary, and hygienic norms and regulations.<\/p>\n
The waste management process has several primary objectives, including ensuring separated collection and maintaining conditions for temporary storage to eliminate harmful impacts on the environment and human health. Additionally, the plan aims to prevent or reduce the generation of waste and, where possible, promote its reuse.<\/p>\n
During the construction and operation phases of the Bakhvi HPP project, various types of waste are expected to be generated, including inert and construction materials, electrical wires, packaging materials, and household waste. Special attention is given to the storage and processing of hazardous wastes, such as oil-contaminated materials and paint residues. For the disposal of these hazardous wastes, Bakhvi HPP has contracted with \"Sanitar,\" a leading company in this field in Georgia with international experience since 1999.<\/p>\n
Caring for the environment is closely linked to proper waste management. Bakhvi HPP management continuously trains our employees in this regard. It is crucial to properly place waste in bins, separate it, and store it until removal. Raising awareness is an essential component. People need to understand why this approach is necessary and the importance of adhering to these practices. Before contracting out for hazardous waste services, the generated hazardous waste is stored in an existing special shed, which is fenced, properly marked, and protected from atmospheric precipitation. Its floor and walls are covered with a solid coating, and waste is only stored in packaged condition with appropriate labeling. Under the aegis of our awareness-raising project, we also conduct special training sessions for students of Mtispiri and Chkhakaura schools. Last week, we provided special bins to these schools for the separated placement of household waste. At this stage, the key is awareness, understanding, and the development of good habits.<\/p>\n
