In response to recommendations from local non-governmental organizations, the management of Bakhvi HPP invited Nicola Foulkes, the principal researcher from the globally recognized company SLR in the UK, to conduct a biodiversity study. Along with presenting the study results, she developed an action plan for mitigating measures, which was handed over to the company\u2019s environmental and social management team.<\/p>\n
The methodology used in the study adhered to the standards of the IFC and the EIB, underscoring the company's strong commitment to conducting an open and comprehensive environmental assessment that meets all international standards. This approach ensures that the best mitigation measures are implemented in the project area.<\/p>\n
General Conclusions of the Study:\n\u2022\tOnly trout were found in the river. The foreign expert developed recommendations to minimize impacts, including regular monitoring, riverbed cleaning, and consultations with local fishermen;\n\u2022\tIt was determined that the ecological impact of the project on the river is sufficient to maintain the trout population and other aquatic biodiversity;\n\u2022\tThe Caucasian salamander was present in the research area. The expert recommended specific measures to promote the long-term growth of this population;\n\u2022\tA comprehensive biodiversity management plan was developed by the foreign expert, detailing all mitigation measures.<\/p>\n
The mitigation measures described in the biodiversity action plan ensure the preservation of biodiversity.
